Yes, this morning I am drowning my sorrows in an Iced Mocha Coffee from the donut shop drive through. It's the first day of school and my kids are older (5th & 7th grades), so why am I sad today? I did not feel this way last year. This feeling came on earnest yesterday but I hid my apprehensions from my children.
I think the biggest reason for this feeling is the change to our daily routines because of my husband's work schedule. When school is in session, he is with us in the morning and drives with us to drop the kids off at school. He leaves for work after the kids are in school and gets home from work once the kids are in bed asleep. This also means that I become somewhat of a single parent and am responsible for most of the homework help. He does help when he can and is just a phone call away when we need him.
I know, things could always be worse. I know that this feeling will pass and hopefully sooner rather than later.
The house sure is quiet... Here, kitty, kitty, mama is lonely...

I think my mom also was sad when my sisters and I went off to school each fall. Especially once we were in high school. Sure, she was relieved that we weren't lying around the house, but she missed having us around when she wanted to go out to lunch.
Awww... so sweet! You're very lucky that you realize how lucky you are!... I know WTF does that mean? You know... You're lucky that you love your kids so much that you miss them when they're at school!
So you deserve that Moccha Latte Frappachino Thingy...
